THE BOOKS I’VE READ IN AUGUST

I’ve only very recently got myself into reading, and like most things I do in life, I don’t just ‘like’ them, I become fully hooked & obsessed, and have to buy every book I lay my eyes on. But that aside, I’ve been loving it, so relaxing. You see I always thought I was a super slow reader, but here I am, I’ve read three ( !! 3 whole books !! ) in August ( ! pat on the back there Sarah ya gem ! ). So I thought ( if I keep up the reading.. ) I could do this every month, let ya know what I’ve read in the month, and what my thoughts on the books are!?

The Queen of Bloody Everything

Synopsis

Have you ever wished for a different mother? Dido has… As Edie Jones lies in a bed on the fourteenth floor of a Cambridge hospital, her adult daughter Dido tells their story, starting with the day that changed everything. That was the day Dido – age six years and twenty-seven days old – met the handsome Tom Trevelyan, his precocious sister, Harry, and their parents, Angela and David. The day Dido fell in love with a family completely different from her own. Because the Trevelyans were exactly the kind of family Dido dreamed of: Normal. Joanna Nadin’s first novel for adults, The Queen of Bloody Everything, is about mothers, daughters, and how family might be what you make it, but you can’t change where you come from.

Review

★★★☆☆ ~ 3/5

I know you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover but, the thing that attracted me to this book was indeed the cover, it’s beautiful and very 70s. I wanted to be able to just step into this book, and be in the garden that was described, it’s amazing. It has a great mother and daughter focus, along with neighbour relationships. You hear all about Dido’s life from her perspective, highly recommend!

The Keeper of Lost Things

Synopsis

Anthony Peardew is the Keeper of ‘lost things’. Forty years ago he carelessly lost a keepsake from his beloved Therese. That very same day, she died unexpectedly. Broken-hearted, Anthony sought consolation in rescuing lost objects – the things others have dropped, misplaced, or accidentally left behind – and writing stories about them. Now, in the twilight of his life, he worries that he has not fully discharged his duty to reconcile all the lost things with their owners. As the end nears, he bequeaths his secret life’s mission to his unsuspecting housekeeper Laura, the one person he can trust to fulfil his legacy. But the final wishes of the Keeper of ‘lost things’ have unforeseen repercussions that trigger a most serendipitous series of encounters…

Review

★★★☆☆ ~ 3/5

I really did enjoy this book also, you just from the start wanted everyone to retrieve their lost things, and find out the stories that went with them. It did turn and have a ghost storyline for a little bit in the middle, but it defiantly wasn’t overpowering, or confusing, it fit quite nicely. I’d just say I wish there had been a few more stories of the lost things being returned.

Three Things About Elsie

Synopsis

Eighty-four year-old Florence has fallen in her flat at Cherry Tree Home for the Elderly. As she waits to be rescued, Florence wonders if a terrible secret from her past is about to come to light; and, if the charming new resident is who he claims to be, why does he look exactly a man who died sixty years ago?

★★★★★ ~ 5/5

WOW, this book is the best I’ve read (granted that’s not many), but I don’t see any books beating this for a long time. I just fell in love with all of the characters, especially Florence & Jack. This was a page turner, it made my laugh at loud, wonder what was going to happen, it had me gripped, and also made me cry. It shows the effects of dementia very well, and portrays the older generation perfectly. I never wanted this book to end, and I will defiantly be read it again. Last quick point, the cover?! Gosh I love it, it’s so cosy and just perfect. If you haven’t read this, then do!

I’ve made myself a Good Reads account where ya can basically add all the books you want to read, and save the ones you’ve already read to see your progress, you can have a look at my account on there if you want to see what I fancy reading next.. ~here~!

wellvivid mirror

Mirrors are pretty much an essential for everyone, not just makeup obsessed people like me, but this one I’m about to chat about is very amazing for getting your face on, it’s very quickly became the mirror I use daily, and something I don’t understand how I lived without.

First of all the mirror size is perfect for everyday, you can see everything and it’s a lot bigger than the previous mirror I used daily (which was the no7 light up mirror). Because it’s more of a rectangle shape you can see everything, and it makes it fab to do your hair in too!

Along with the main mirror, on the left hand side you had a 2x zoom mirror and a 3x zoom mirror, which are perfect for looking close up, I tend to use the for when I pluck my eyebrows (when I can be bothered to go through the pain of that haha!) Then on the right hand side of the main mirror you are blessed with a normal rectangle mirror, which is fab as you can see side views, and just adds of course MORE mirror space!

Even though there is a lot of mirror space the mirror itself is still compact, and it all folds back up (as you’ll see in the photos), which is so handy for storing, and also for travelling! It has a shelf you could say where you can pop whatever you want, ie. the makeup you’re using which is super handy!

As well as being a fab general mirror it LIGHTS UP, woo! Perfect when you’re doing your makeup as you can see your face super clearly. You can choose how bright you want it too which is brill, just be dimming it. To make it work you can either use batteries, or just plug into a plug via a usb / just your phone charger!

All in all I am truly obsessed with this mirror and don’t know how I did my makeup right without it!! ~haha~.

Head over to the Well Vivid website ~here~ and have a lil read up about the mirror in there words! Also buy the Well Vivid mirror from Amazon through the link ~here~!

A massive thank you to the team at Wellvivid, they are so lovely, and I don’t think you could buy from a nicer couple! SO HELPFUL

glossier review ~ cherry balm dot com

I am very late to the Glossier bandwagon, but ever since they launched I’ve been eyeing up the products that they have, the design is just beautiful, so simple, but very effective. They have a wide variety of products including skincare, makeup and even a fragrance!

I love a lip balm, I really do ~I have a drawer full~ (which defiantly doesn’t justify this purchase). Glossier sell a wide variety of ‘flavours’ haha, in their balm dot com which is; ‘a hydrating, long-lasting, multipurpose lip balm and skin salve that’s packed with antioxidants and natural emollients to nourish and repair dry, chafed skin. The dense, waxy texture stays in place to seal in moisture wherever it goes.’ & it comes in 6 different ‘scents’ so there is something for everyone!

I chose the cherry scent, and WOWZA it is devine, oh m geeee! I chose the cherry mainly because it is red, and leaves a red tint to your lips, which obviously is my kinda thing! It’s a very subtle tint of red but it’s defiantly still there, and fab for more natural makeup days, or when you’re wearing none!

This balm is incredible, it really has become a favourite of mine, it lives in my handbag! I’ve found it helps so much if you have any dry patches on your lips, and is defiantly handy for me as I wear matte lipsticks a lot, keeps them hydrated, and smooth!

glossier.png

With this order I managed to bag a free little sample WOO, and I chose the Glossier ‘you’ perfume, honestly not that much of a fan, for me I found it to be a very strong scent, which i’m generally not a fan of at all, it has a very woody/musky scent, which is nice to wear occasionally but not an everyday thing for me! I’m glad I got the sample because of course it’s hard to know what these things smell like, unless you see them in person, so now I know not to splurge on the full bottle!

The Glossier order itself comes in the loveliest packaging, a baby pink outer bag, and then inside you get a little pink bubble lined pouch, which can be kept as a makeup bag, and then you get little stickers, it’s just all so blooming cute and I love it!

I really want to order from Glossier again, which I’m sure I will soon, I’m dying to try the ‘boy brow’, ‘lidstars’, more balm dot coms, and also the face masks OF COURSE!

If you fancy buying something from Glossier you can use my link which will give you 10% of your first order hehe YAY!! ~HERE~

mario badescu ~ skincare routine

Oh how I have longed to try out some Mario Badescu products, but I never really knew what to pick up, well turns out I didn’t need too, as the lovely team over at Mario Badescu sent me over a WHOLE skincare routine for my dry skin, which cuts out me not knowing what products to choose, I have everything, and I honestly believe this will be my skincare routine forever.. Bold statement, but just listen (read lol).

ALL.jpg

NOTE.jpg

FACIAL SPRAY WITH ALOE HERBS AND ROSEWATER; This is bloody lovely, especially when you’re boiling and need a refresh. It can be used under and over makeup, so it’s pretty multi use! It’s been leaving my skin GLOWING, and it smells incredible! It’s such a fab mist as well, you only need one spritz to get you’re whole face (and my face is rather big) so it should last a while. Ps. this is one is for all skin types!

MARIO

ORANGE CLEANSING SOAP;ORANGE CLEANSING SOAP; Gosh orange is such a lovely smell, who wouldn’t want an orange smelling cleanser?! This product itself has a sheeny glow to it so of course it defiantly helps the skin have a natural glow! I have mainly been using this on my face, not eyes! Ps. this is for all skin types!

SOAP

ALOE VERA TONER; Again this has a fab smell, very refreshing! It’s really been hydrating my skin and making it glow! Normally I’m put of toners as they can sometimes sting, but this one doesn’t at all, it’s very gentle and does what I’ve always looked for in a toner. Ps. this is for dry & sensitive skin types!

TONER.jpg

THE MOISTURE MAGNET; WOW! Best moisturiser ever honest! So it has an spf15 in it, which is brill, protects our face from them rays, looking after your skin in the sun is so important! It’s worked so well for me because it’s so hydrating, so it’s really softened any dry areas on my face (I felt my skin the other day and I was like woah is this really mine LOL). Again lush scent, and it’s not too thick so it sinks into the skin pretty quickly, leaves no residue! Ps. this is for dry, sensitive and combination skin types!

MAGNET.jpg

ROSE HIPS NOURISHING OIL; So this is a super thick oil, that nourishes and revives dehydrated and dry skin! I use 2/3 drops on to my very dry areas, ie. round my nose, and on my forehead, I feel like it’s really helping as it’s so thick and it’s concentrated on just them dryer areas! Ps. this is for dry, sensitive & combination skin types!

OIL.jpgCHAMOMILE EYE CREAM; Not any fragrance to this really, which I like because around the eye area can be super sensitive! I find this eye cream to be very soothing, really helps to cool down the eye area, by hydrating them. Handy to use again if you have dryness around your eyes, and it also helps to minimise fine lines. Ps. this is for all skin types!

EYE.jpg

CHAMOMILE NIGHT  CREAM; Again not a lot of fragrance from this one, it pretty much does the same as the eye cream but in a more thicker creamy form for your whole face! I love popping loads on before sleep and it just sinks in on it’s own, and you wake up with soft skin PERFECT! Really hydrating and just all round fabulous. Ps. this is for dry, sensitive & combination skin types!

NIGHT.jpg

ROSE HIPS MASK; This smells like bubblegum, it’s bloody incredible! Hands down my new favorite mask for more reasons that just the smell.. The mask itself has little gritty bits in it ~which is my favorite kind of mask~ it really helps to get rid of dirt and exfoliate! It also doesn’t sting, which I find happens with a lot of masks, ~basically you aren’t left looking like a tomato after. Really helping my dry skin a lot, and gives me a glow! Ps. this is for dry, sensitive & combination skin types!

MASK.jpg

Oh also the packaging and colour of all these products is fab! I love the colours and the design of each product! The green is very good for me to work with in photos, as it fits in so well with the garden WOO! The prices of each of these products vary, I’d say they were mid range, defiantly worth the little extra splash! Ooo also the whole range by Mario Badescu is cruelty free!

This whole routine I’m doing daily, and it’s totally improved my skin so much! No more dry areas, and I am glowing! I defiantly will be repurchasing every one of these products! It’s so fab to finally find a skincare routine that actually works for me (I’ve tried SO many other brands). They have a lot of different products too, so I’m sure they’d have something for you! Yes you reading hehe!

Also finally a HUGE thank you to the lovely people at Mario Badescu for sending me all of this, I am so grateful eeep!

urban decay

This is best blogger mail I have ever received, and it’s from none other than the amazing Indulge Beauty team, I have already done a post with a little information about Indulge Beauty which you can read ~here~! They have sent me a bag full of Urban Decay goodies, yes you did read that right URBAN DECAY!! How lucky am I, I am still in awe, and this is the peak of my blogging career so far..

So the first thing I spotted in the bag was the Urban Decay ‘Naked’ palette, sorry, but HOW exciting! I already have this, but mine is battered and pretty much all used up, I got it when I was 16, and it was the first ‘high end’ makeup item I’d ever got, so getting this again brings back memories of finding my love for makeup! But I adore this palette, it’s defiantly my favorite from the ‘Naked’ collection, it’s the perfect palette to grab everyday, and it is full of warm tones, which work for me!

I’ve tried the Urban Decay ‘vice’ lipsticks before, and I love them, ~of course the one I have already is a red shade hehe~ I’ve been lucky enough to receive a gorg nude shade, perfect for when I want to be a little more natural, you know a ‘your lips but better shade’, it’s in the ‘mega matte’ formula and they are so comfy to wear even though they are completely matte, I just love it!

Since the ‘vice liquid lipsticks’ launched I’ve had my eye on them, wondering what the formula would be like, but I only wish I’d tried these sooner, they are so comfortable to wear on the lips, very opaque/pigmented colour payoff, and have a lovely scent! I am defiantly going to have to purchase some more.. I love the packaging too, because you can very clearly see the colour and the lid is the same as the ‘vice’ lipsticks. The colour I was sent was a gorgeous muted/dark purple ~haha, so good at describing~, but I love it for a more natural look instead of my reds.

I do love trying a new mascara, I always am looking for something lengthening and a little volume, but I hate clumpy lashes, they just don’t look good on me. So I was very exited to spot the Urban Decay ‘troublemaker’ mascara, this is the newest one they have launched, and honestly the packaging, wow! It is bloody gorgeous, but the actual mascara itself, well, I do really like that too, it’s more of a spiky brush, but it works to add length, and volume! So this is a total winner for me, and it’s something I know I’ll repurchase when it runs out, yay!

In the capsule box that Indulge Beauty sent me I was lucky enough to try a mini Urban Decay ‘all nighter’ setting spray, which was great, and something I’d wanted to try for a while, the handy mini size meant that it now belongs in my handbag. So I was very kindly gifted a full size Urban Decay ‘all nighter pollution protection’ setting spray, this is honestly just as fab, keeps my makeup on so well, love the packaging, and has a lovely scent, it’s so handy having a full size as I can keep this at home!

Make sure you have a look over at the Indulge Beauty website & check out the Urban Decay & alllll the other goodies they have ~here~!

Also the BIGGEST thank you evvver to the Indulge Beauty team for sending me these things over, I am so gratefulll! Xx
