THE BOOKS I’VE READ IN AUGUST

I’ve only very recently got myself into reading, and like most things I do in life, I don’t just ‘like’ them, I become fully hooked & obsessed, and have to buy every book I lay my eyes on. But that aside, I’ve been loving it, so relaxing. You see I always thought I was a super slow reader, but here I am, I’ve read three ( !! 3 whole books !! ) in August ( ! pat on the back there Sarah ya gem ! ). So I thought ( if I keep up the reading.. ) I could do this every month, let ya know what I’ve read in the month, and what my thoughts on the books are!?

The Queen of Bloody Everything

Synopsis

Have you ever wished for a different mother? Dido has… As Edie Jones lies in a bed on the fourteenth floor of a Cambridge hospital, her adult daughter Dido tells their story, starting with the day that changed everything. That was the day Dido – age six years and twenty-seven days old – met the handsome Tom Trevelyan, his precocious sister, Harry, and their parents, Angela and David. The day Dido fell in love with a family completely different from her own. Because the Trevelyans were exactly the kind of family Dido dreamed of: Normal. Joanna Nadin’s first novel for adults, The Queen of Bloody Everything, is about mothers, daughters, and how family might be what you make it, but you can’t change where you come from.

Review

★★★☆☆ ~ 3/5

I know you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover but, the thing that attracted me to this book was indeed the cover, it’s beautiful and very 70s. I wanted to be able to just step into this book, and be in the garden that was described, it’s amazing. It has a great mother and daughter focus, along with neighbour relationships. You hear all about Dido’s life from her perspective, highly recommend!

The Keeper of Lost Things

Synopsis

Anthony Peardew is the Keeper of ‘lost things’. Forty years ago he carelessly lost a keepsake from his beloved Therese. That very same day, she died unexpectedly. Broken-hearted, Anthony sought consolation in rescuing lost objects – the things others have dropped, misplaced, or accidentally left behind – and writing stories about them. Now, in the twilight of his life, he worries that he has not fully discharged his duty to reconcile all the lost things with their owners. As the end nears, he bequeaths his secret life’s mission to his unsuspecting housekeeper Laura, the one person he can trust to fulfil his legacy. But the final wishes of the Keeper of ‘lost things’ have unforeseen repercussions that trigger a most serendipitous series of encounters…

Review

★★★☆☆ ~ 3/5

I really did enjoy this book also, you just from the start wanted everyone to retrieve their lost things, and find out the stories that went with them. It did turn and have a ghost storyline for a little bit in the middle, but it defiantly wasn’t overpowering, or confusing, it fit quite nicely. I’d just say I wish there had been a few more stories of the lost things being returned.

Three Things About Elsie

Synopsis

Eighty-four year-old Florence has fallen in her flat at Cherry Tree Home for the Elderly. As she waits to be rescued, Florence wonders if a terrible secret from her past is about to come to light; and, if the charming new resident is who he claims to be, why does he look exactly a man who died sixty years ago?

WOW, this book is the best I’ve read (granted that’s not many), but I don’t see any books beating this for a long time. I just fell in love with all of the characters, especially Florence & Jack. This was a page turner, it made my laugh at loud, wonder what was going to happen, it had me gripped, and also made me cry. It shows the effects of dementia very well, and portrays the older generation perfectly. I never wanted this book to end, and I will defiantly be read it again. Last quick point, the cover?! Gosh I love it, it’s so cosy and just perfect. If you haven’t read this, then do!

I’ve made myself a Good Reads account where ya can basically add all the books you want to read, and save the ones you’ve already read to see your progress, you can have a look at my account on there if you want to see what I fancy reading next.. ~here~!

mario badescu ~ skincare routine

Oh how I have longed to try out some Mario Badescu products, but I never really knew what to pick up, well turns out I didn’t need too, as the lovely team over at Mario Badescu sent me over a WHOLE skincare routine for my dry skin, which cuts out me not knowing what products to choose, I have everything, and I honestly believe this will be my skincare routine forever.. Bold statement, but just listen (read lol).

NOTE.jpg

FACIAL SPRAY WITH ALOE HERBS AND ROSEWATER; This is bloody lovely, especially when you’re boiling and need a refresh. It can be used under and over makeup, so it’s pretty multi use! It’s been leaving my skin GLOWING, and it smells incredible! It’s such a fab mist as well, you only need one spritz to get you’re whole face (and my face is rather big) so it should last a while. Ps. this is one is for all skin types!

MARIO

ORANGE CLEANSING SOAP;ORANGE CLEANSING SOAP; Gosh orange is such a lovely smell, who wouldn’t want an orange smelling cleanser?! This product itself has a sheeny glow to it so of course it defiantly helps the skin have a natural glow! I have mainly been using this on my face, not eyes! Ps. this is for all skin types!

SOAP

ALOE VERA TONER; Again this has a fab smell, very refreshing! It’s really been hydrating my skin and making it glow! Normally I’m put of toners as they can sometimes sting, but this one doesn’t at all, it’s very gentle and does what I’ve always looked for in a toner. Ps. this is for dry & sensitive skin types!

TONER.jpg

THE MOISTURE MAGNET; WOW! Best moisturiser ever honest! So it has an spf15 in it, which is brill, protects our face from them rays, looking after your skin in the sun is so important! It’s worked so well for me because it’s so hydrating, so it’s really softened any dry areas on my face (I felt my skin the other day and I was like woah is this really mine LOL). Again lush scent, and it’s not too thick so it sinks into the skin pretty quickly, leaves no residue! Ps. this is for dry, sensitive and combination skin types!

MAGNET.jpg

ROSE HIPS NOURISHING OIL; So this is a super thick oil, that nourishes and revives dehydrated and dry skin! I use 2/3 drops on to my very dry areas, ie. round my nose, and on my forehead, I feel like it’s really helping as it’s so thick and it’s concentrated on just them dryer areas! Ps. this is for dry, sensitive & combination skin types!

OIL.jpgCHAMOMILE EYE CREAM; Not any fragrance to this really, which I like because around the eye area can be super sensitive! I find this eye cream to be very soothing, really helps to cool down the eye area, by hydrating them. Handy to use again if you have dryness around your eyes, and it also helps to minimise fine lines. Ps. this is for all skin types!

EYE.jpg

CHAMOMILE NIGHT  CREAM; Again not a lot of fragrance from this one, it pretty much does the same as the eye cream but in a more thicker creamy form for your whole face! I love popping loads on before sleep and it just sinks in on it’s own, and you wake up with soft skin PERFECT! Really hydrating and just all round fabulous. Ps. this is for dry, sensitive & combination skin types!

NIGHT.jpg

ROSE HIPS MASK; This smells like bubblegum, it’s bloody incredible! Hands down my new favorite mask for more reasons that just the smell.. The mask itself has little gritty bits in it ~which is my favorite kind of mask~ it really helps to get rid of dirt and exfoliate! It also doesn’t sting, which I find happens with a lot of masks, ~basically you aren’t left looking like a tomato after. Really helping my dry skin a lot, and gives me a glow! Ps. this is for dry, sensitive & combination skin types!

Oh also the packaging and colour of all these products is fab! I love the colours and the design of each product! The green is very good for me to work with in photos, as it fits in so well with the garden WOO! The prices of each of these products vary, I’d say they were mid range, defiantly worth the little extra splash! Ooo also the whole range by Mario Badescu is cruelty free!

This whole routine I’m doing daily, and it’s totally improved my skin so much! No more dry areas, and I am glowing! I defiantly will be repurchasing every one of these products! It’s so fab to finally find a skincare routine that actually works for me (I’ve tried SO many other brands). They have a lot of different products too, so I’m sure they’d have something for you! Yes you reading hehe!

Also finally a HUGE thank you to the lovely people at Mario Badescu for sending me all of this, I am so grateful eeep!

cameras

Over the past 3 years I have found myself falling in love with photography, capturing any moments I could ~mostly on my phone at the time~, I love the idea that you can take a picture and essentially that moment is frozen in time, I must say I am very sentimental and love looking back on memories, so that’s probably why I got into it so much.

I’ve always been more into scenry potogrpahy, including nature, I think I’ve mentioned before how much I love trees ~lol~, and especailly bees, anything to do with the outdoors really and I’m there with my camera or phone. Of course I take photos of ~some~ food, and since I’m a blogger beauty items, and outfits are along with things I enjoy photographing now.

I switch between using my trusty phone camera, to my little Sony cyber shot, to my very recent and most loved possession which is my Sony A5000. I using all of these for different things, and I do still want to expand my camera collection!

The next camera purchase I am lusting over ~and I will get someday~ is a Go Pro it’s  always been something I’ve been so curious to try, for a lot of different reasons, they are teeny tiny, which is ideal for on the go shots other than carrying around a big camera, but even though the size they don’t lack in quality! Also the fact that they are waterproof is a massive pro ~hehe it’s in the name~ to me, because none of the things I use are waterproof and that gives me a fear of evening shooting pictures in the rain. But also imagine going somewhere like the Caribbean or Iceland ~could I have chose further polar opposites..~ and shooting whilst in the sea, or the blue lagoon, AMAZING.

Of course whenever buying a new piece of technology you want the best deal possible, so I’ve stumbled across the best place to make sure I and you get the best price! You basically type what you’re looking for into the site, and it comes up with allll the different Go Pro’s for example, and where the cheapest place to get them is, it’s so simple to use! Have a little look at the Go Pro deals I found ~here~!

If any of you have any of you tried a Go Pro before? Let me know, I’d love to hear how you got along with it & see any pictures you’ve shot!
